Detroit Public Theatre

Built for the Stage

Working as a freelance developer for the Detroit Public Theatre, I built and launched their new web presence. I took a specific design spec and translated it into clean frontend code, handled the responsive implementation, and ensured every interaction matched their original design intent.

The challenge

Detroit Public Theatre had the ambition and the audience, but a website that couldn't keep up. The existing platform was non-responsive, visually dated, and completely disconnected from the box office system. Buying a ticket meant navigating a fragmented checkout that bounced users between different platforms and back again. For a theatre trying to grow its digital presence, the site was quietly costing them seats.

The solution

I took the approved design and built the site from scratch, making it fully responsive, fast, and connected directly to the live ticketing API. We cut the checkout flow from six steps down to three, getting rid of all the unnecessary friction. Now, seat availability refreshes in real time without a page reload, so the whole site actually keeps up on a sold-out night.
